Articulation Agreements

High School Tech Prep and MCC Articulation Agreements

Career/Technical education course articulation between McHenry County College and the high schools of the McHenry County Cooperative for Employment (MCCEE) Education has been developed in order to coordinate Career and Technical education programs between the two educational systems. Additional, related post-secondary programs are available by cooperative agreements with Elgin Community College, Triton, and Rock Valley College. Specific programs eligible for articulation are shown below. Articulation Agreements are formal contracts between MCCEE and post secondary institutions allowing high school students to earn credit for college while in high school. These credits will be awarded upon enrollment in the college. Colleges may have different rules determining when credit is granted. Check with MCCEE or the college you expect to attend.

Not all articulated classes are available at all high schools.  See your guidance counselor for specific details.  The articulation process provides the students the following opportunities:

  1. To initially enroll in high school Career/Technical education programs and then to continue training in a similar, but more advanced program at McHenry County College or other post-secondary schools.
  2. To advance from the students’ high school to McHenry County College training with little or no duplication of curriculum content.
  3. To develop employment skills currently in demand by local employers.  To secure gainful employment in local, as well as national employment markets.

In certain classes, students can earn college credit while participating in the high school career/vocational classes. Students must meet certain criteria to earn college credit. See your high school guidance counselor for more information.

College credit enables students to receive advanced standing, save time and money, and avoid duplication of material already learned.  Generally, students must earn an A or B in the class and apply for credit within two years of graduation.
